I am posting this again because this same post I did the other day mysteriously did not show up show in certain alerts I have set up or in a search on my site’s URL. This has happened before. Apparently, if you are posting information about issues that harm people and are immersed in corruption and cover ups, you might find there are ways your site can be targeted to be censored by having the visibility of your posts severely restricted. This will not show up on the usual security alerts and scanning your computer will not remove the problem, though it can be corrected. katy

The apartments themselves are beautiful, my roommate & I were very excited to have found this place & eagerly moved into our 2 bedroom 2 bath (Sheffield). We extensively searched the Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood, Milwaukie, and South Portland areas before deciding on renting with Monterey Springs, a sorry mistake.

The apartment that we were told was being held for us was given away (a 3Bd overlooking the water feature), our promised leasing agreement was incorrect and defaulted in their behalf ($40 more per month), & although a parking space is “guaranteed” for each bedroom, in 10 months I have had to park over at the mall six times, & have been towed twice! Maintenence requests get serviced, but at sometimes a 1 & 1/2 week wait (you have to nag them until they get it done). I don’t even want to go into the mailing & package receiving problems I’ve encountered since living here.

Turnover in the leasing office seems high, & I have noted the same with Arcadia Patrol (the apt grounds security). I had a chatty Security Guard admit to being drunk on the job, witnessed the same guard meeting up with friends in the parking lot (who parked in a paying tenants spot no doubt), & have seen said guard knocking on tenant doors at 3am! (I work swing shift & come home between 2-4am so I have the pleasure of hearing & seeing the late night parties & having bored security personnel strike up conversations with me). Despite having a locking gate, & Arcadia Patrol their have been 2 tenant murders on apartment grounds, both incidents made local news.

Although Riverstone Residential claims to be trying to clean the place up, I still see garbage lying in the breezeways, cigarette butts up and down the stairs, & unkempt patio spaces. The worst and most insulting part of our experience here has been the attitude of the management. Aside from Lesley, the office staff is regularly misinformed & HIGHLY disorganized. As a kind, easy going, compliant, well paying & respectful resident, the attitudes that have been given me by staff here are insulting.

San Francisco Examiner Editorial: Man-made disaster another blow to Louisiana

Residents of the Bayou State may be forgiven for wondering what they’ve done to deserve this: In the past five years, they’ve been slammed by four of the worst natural disasters ever recorded, hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Gustav and Rita.

Now with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill at BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling platform 53 miles off Louisiana’s coast, Washington, D.C., politicians and bureaucrats are inflicting on them a man-made disaster of epic proportions. The degree of official mismanagement seen so far in the 54 days since the platform exploded, killing 11 workers, is truly mind-boggling.

As soon as it became clear the explosion created a spill capable of pouring thousands of barrels of raw crude into the Gulf, foreign governments began offering aid to the United States. Three days after the explosion, the Netherlands offered to send ships capable of skimming oil off the water and submitted a plan to begin building sand dikes to protect the many environmentally fragile marshes along the Gulf Coast.

“The Embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’” Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston, told the Houston Chronicle. Only now, seven weeks and millions of spilled barrels of crude later, Washington has finally emergency-airlifted four of the booms from the Netherlands to be fitted to U.S. vessels.

As for the sand dikes, which Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has been begging Washington for weeks for permission to build, the bureaucrats finally approved construction of a tiny portion of the total requested. But taking advantage of the Netherlands’ vast experience in building such devices is difficult because of the Jones Act, a protectionist U.S. law that requires all goods transported by water between domestic ports to use U.S. owned, flagged and built ships with U.S. crews.

The law was waived by the Bush administration during Katrina, but it’s still in force, preventing Dutch ships from entering U.S. coastal waters and precluding Dutch contractors, who have vast experience building dikes, from displacing U.S. dredging firms that don’t. One of the Dutch companies has a plan to erect 60 miles of dikes on the Louisiana coast within three weeks. Washington had that plan in hand for nearly two months before acting on it last week.

Devastating hurricanes like Katrina are unpreventable natural events. But man-made catastrophes created by Big Government’s bureaucratic incompetence, regulatory inefficiency and political infighting, don’t have to occur. How much more damage has to be inflicted on the people, economy and environment of Louisiana before Washington gets the message?

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) – The mold is growing in one local apartment complex and now some residents are moving out.

Residents tells WHAS11 that the mold is already taking its toll.
 
WHAS11’s Melanie Kahn has more on this story from Hikes Point.

People who live at the apartments on Orchard Manor Circle say they first noticed the mold about a month ago.

Since then, some have started to have problems breathing. While they’ve tried to get the problem resolved, they say they haven’t received a response from anyone.

Richard Morgan says his apartment is moldy, but he never gets a response from his property manager when he calls to complain about the problems.

He says he has inches of mold growing all over his apartment – behind the couch, on the bottom of the couch, and at the top of the shower.

Morgan says he moved into this apartment on Orchard Manor Circle three months ago.  He says the problems all started with after a fire there in April.

Now, months later, every time it rains, it floods, causing mold to grow.
 
Morgan says the mold isn’t only growing in his apartment.  He says that earlier Wednesday, people were in the hallway painting over the mold.

WHAS11 tried calling Morgan’s property manager to get some answers, but no one picked up the phone.

Morgan says he’s planning to move out, but he still wants something to be done about the mold problem.

The Centers for Disease Control warns that mold in homes can cause serious health risks and should be removed immediately.
