Toxic Indoor Mold Central – Mold and Renters – Across the Country No laws To Force Any Action

Below is a story from Louisville. Basically, this depicts the same set of rules across the U.S. In NJ, hopefully, my legislation will be voted in, which will serve to save thousands from the serious health problems and the horrors of indoor mold, caused by the neglect and/or ignorance of landlords. Currently I have been officially charged with designing legislation to get this done. This is something that I have been working on for over a year now and we are getting close to the finish line.

I hope everone will help support this effort either in spirit or by writing and emailing letters of support for this legislation.

After the flood, what are renter’s and landlord’s rights and responsibilities? – whas11.com

Goldman Sachs and Chinese Drywall – posted on goldmansachs666.com

by Mike Morgan
August 11, 2009

Let me start by saying I have no information that Goldman Sachs had anything whatsoever to do with the Chinese Drywall issues plaguing home owners, but I want to make a point, how ignoring signs, signals, warnings and Americans crying out for help . . . will turn into something that we cannot fix without a huge cost. In fact, with Goldman Sachs, it is more like Humpty Dumpty. We will NOT be able to fix the damage they have done and continue to do to our financial system and our futures. So here is something I posted this morning on my real estate blogs about Chinese Drywall . . . and how it reminds me of how we are letting Goldman Sachs get away with whatever they want, because just like the home builders had politicians and regulators in their pockets, Goldman Sachs owns Washington and just about every Governor in the United States.

Chinese Drywall – After receiving dozens of phone calls, emails and media requests regarding Chinese Drywall, I will post this one and only post regarding Chinese Drywall.

Almost five years ago, I started a campaign against home builders building defective homes. It was a costly battle both financially and personally. My meetings and conversations with politicians were met with puppy like stares . . . simply because they could not afford to piss off home builders, their attorneys and their friends and families. At that time, we were in the middle of a housing bubble, and politicians only cared about one thing . . . campaign contributions and jobs after they left office. Ken Pruitt, formerly the Florida Senate leader, was a perfect example of a politician that couldn’t have cared less.

U.S. Florida Senators Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez were no different. And the same for a dozen Congressmen I contacted.

At that time, we knew homes were defective. We had definitive proof. More importantly, there were some very disturbing health issues popping up that were not connected to the physical defects. We knew something was wrong. It was clear that there was something in the air of these homes . . . but not a single government building inspector, nor a single politicians wanted to go up against the builders.

Now we are talking about a bailout for the home buyers of these homes, which will indirectly bail out the home builders. Nonsense. Once again, we want to ignore the consequences of bad behavior. Chinese Drywall could potentially put several home builders out of business. It just depends upon how hard the class action attorneys push this issue, and whether we see any long lasting health issues.

Sadly, a lot of the drywall that was installed could have been prevented if the home builders involved had taken the complaints seriously and done some internal investigations. I leave you with a quote from one of the country’s greatest hypocrites.

Here is an excerpt from a speech Elizabeth Dole made as Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission. January 21, 1979

“for too many Americans, the dream home has turned into a nightmare. You know as well as I do that as families move into their own little Garden of Eden, more and more are finding the apple full of worms. As a result, some home buyers believe they are being bilked for thousands of dollars, and they are expressing not only anguish but outrage. Shoddy building practices can be concealed from many purchasers who cannot be expected to have the technical expertise to evaluate the structural soundness of a home or the quality of electrical, plumbing, or air conditioning systems. The patience of the American consumer is rapidly running out. Consumers are demanding more protection from the government, not LESS. The consumer movement is no longer made up of small bands of activists with no troops standing behind them; the consumer movement is now part of our culture it embraces every one of us. And it will not be denied over an issue so fundamental as decent housing”

Wake Up America!

My Goldman Sachs P.S. The same ignorance our politicians and regulators exhibited during the housing bubble, is what we are experiencing today with Goldman Sachs and other Banksters. Five years from now we will wonder why our pension funds are empty. We will wonder where all of our hard earned dollars have gone, while the boys and girls from Goldman Sachs will be sipping drinks on the beach.

8-12-09 Press Conference – Downey Injured Movie/Kaiser Workers At LA Press Club

Wednesday August 12, 2009 4:00 PM

Los Angeles Press Club
4773 Hollywood Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90027-5333

Downey Injured Movie/Kaiser Workers Speak Out About Toxic
Dump Site Disaster

On Wednesday August 12, 2009 at 4:00 PM at the Los AngelesPress Club injured workers will be speaking out about their injuries and struggle for healthcare and justice at the privatized Brownfield Downey Toxic Dump site. The former military/NASA site was supposed to be properly cleaned up by the developer Stuart Lichter but this was not done and as a result of this, many injured workers from the Downey Studios, Dreamworks Studio and the Downey Kaiser Hospital Complex have been seriously sickened by the toxins, dangerous chemicals and molds at the site.

These workers included members of IATSE Local 44, LIUNA 724 and SEIU UHW as well as other unions at the toxic site.

These workers will report on their injuries and their effort to have Ca-OSHA, the EPA and other government agencies to properly supervise health and safety protection and the clean-up after the transfer of this NASA government site to private interests.

There will also be a report on the ongoing Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation SLAPP filed by Stuart Lichter against injured workers and advocates of injured workers to silence them about their injuries and the dangers of the Downey toxic dump.

Evidence will be presented that show that many government officials and elected officials including Congressman Henry Waxman, Senators Feinstein and Boxer, Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger, Attorney General Jerry Brown and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner have been provided with the information and refused to either meet with the workers and or investigate the serious health hazards.

This also has national implications since these privatized Brownfield toxic sites have been spread throughout the country and similar health care problems have surfaced at sites owned by Stuart Lichter and other toxic site developers.

Injured workers and their advocates are calling for national Congressional Hearings on the privatization of highly toxic Brownfield sites and how this program has impacted workers, veterans and communities.

A recent article in the Los Angeles Times provided information about some of the workers who will be speaking at this press conference.

On behalf of millions of Americans harmed by exposure to toxic mold the following message has been sent to President Obama, all U.S. Senators, members of the U.S. House, the Governors of all 50 states, state legislators, state health departments, etc.

My family was exposed to toxic mold in our home in Johnston, Iowa.  Toxic mold can happen anywhere.  My name is Cheryl Wisecup, but you don’t need my name to understand this issue.  I am writing to you on behalf of millions of Americans who have been harmed by exposure to toxic mold.

Toxic mold causes serious health problems.  We need your help to get laws passed in order to ensure that the American people can get appropriate medical care and the correct information regarding the handling and remediation of toxic mold.  We need laws and regulations in regard to people who test and remediate mold in order to stop the fraud and deceit that has been occurring throughout the country.

Toxic mold can happen to anyone.  My family’s experience is a good example of what has been happening to families throughout the country.  We had toxic mold in our home.  We lost our home, our health, all of our personal belongings and our financial security.  What if your family lost everything—your home, your health, your personal property, your family mementos, your financial security, and your children’s sense of safety?

For 50 years, the tobacco industry denied the truth about the health effects of tobacco.  How long will the insurance industry and other stakeholders be allowed to deny the truth about the health effects of toxic mold?  We need to expose the truth now and educate the public about the proper way to handle mold problems in our homes, schools and businesses.  If your family was exposed to toxic mold, wouldn’t you want laws in place to protect your loved ones?  This is all we are asking.  We need your leadership and action on this very important issue.

The following information will give you a good place to start in understanding the issues that need to be addressed.  These ten items are a very small sample of the thousands of documents available on this topic.  I thought these items would be most helpful in your efforts to create new laws and regulations about mold-related issues.  You might also review the mold legislation that was proposed by Representative John Conyers.

Toxic mold is a very serious health threat, and we need to do enact laws to help protect all Americans. I hope this information is helpful as you work to develop laws and regulations about mold-related issues.

1.  The following paper has an insightful discussion of whether mold contamination in homes can be regulated.  “Can Mold Contamination of Homes be Regulated–Lessons Learned from Radon and Lead Policies”?  The answer is yes.

http://pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.1021/es0620585

2.  The State of California issued mold remediation guidelines.  This is one of the most up-to-date reports available.  It contains references to several important articles about the health effects of toxic mold.  The U.S. Navy also has mold remediation guidelines.

http://www-nehc.med.navy.mil/downloads/prevmed/katrina/ihfom_ch13-3.pdf

3.  The State of Nevada recently passed legislation designating September 2009 as toxic mold awareness month, and the State of Arkansas passed legislation regarding standards and qualifications for mold investigators.  You could use this information as a starting point for one part of your legislation, but you would want to get input from experts.

4.  The U.S. Surgeon General just announced the federal government’s new Healthy Home Initiative which discusses mold and mold toxins, along with lead paint and radon, and other issues that can affect the indoor environment in homes.

5.  The Center for School Mold Help has a lot of valuable information about mold in schools and also has an excellent article discussing how certain stakeholders are trying to hide the truth about the health effects of toxic mold.

6.  There are many books available on this subject including these two books:

Bioaerosols: Assessment and Control”  This book was published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists in 1999

“Molds and Mycotoxins–Papers from an International Symposium”  This book was edited by Kaye Kilburn, M.D., and was published by Heldref Publications in 2004.

7.  James Craner, M.D., has published several good articles and reports on this topic, including “A Critique of the ACOEM Statement on Mold.”  Another leading expert is Jack Thrasher, Ph.D., who is a toxicologist.

8.  The following links are from military textbooks.  The first one is Chapter 34 on Trichothecene Mycotoxins, and the second one is Chapter 4 on Toxins (which includes information about mycotoxins).  If the U.S. military can admit that mycotoxins are dangerous, then why are the insurance companies allowed to deny that mycotoxins cause health problems.

9.  The University of Connecticut published a handbook in 2004 titled “Guidance for Clinicians on the Recognition and Management of Health Effects Related to Mold Exposure and Moisture Indoors.”

10.  Ritchie Shoemaker, M.D., is one of the leading doctors in the country who are helping people who have been harmed by exposure to toxic mold.  This is the link for Dr. Shoemaker’s website:
